Sunday Nights: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough

Editor's Review:

Fat Possum Records continues to release raw, unrefined records that the over-produced major label world refuses to touch. Sunday Nights: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough is a tribute to the inventive and mesmerizing bluesman Junior Kimbrough (R.I.P.) and his Sunday night juke house named, simply, Junior’s Place. Although most of the contributing artists are white, they exude the primal audacity of black roots blues that is common in only the most unruly juke joints of the Deep South. Iggy and the (reunited) Stooges, Blues Explosion, The Black Keys and Pete Yorn all contribute songs alongside Spiritualized and The Fiery Furnaces. Like the packaging says, “Though the world doesn’t need another tribute record, it does need to know about Junior Kimbrough.”
