Zion I

True & Livin’

Editor's Review:

Beep beep beep. Wake up. Rub your eye boogers out and open your ears to Zion I’s third album, True & Livin’. After five years and two albums, Zion I have finally found themselves. Tackling serious issues such as social injustice, relationships and whether hip-hop is worth making at all, Zion I come correct and could easily be compared to A Tribe Called Quest in their prime. Zion I producer Amp Live combines upbeat rap, jazz and blues sounds and drops bangers with guest spots from the likes of Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock, Del and Gift of Gab. This is the year for The Bay, but not just that gangster shit. Straight out of Oakland, Zion I are here for real. Please don’t sleep.
