Experimental Dental School

2˝ Creatures

Editor's Review:

Tired of being spoon-fed mundane rock from the radio and MTV? Looking for something different? Try 2½ Creatures. This album, the second from Experimental Dental School, is like taking your ears for a ride on a rollercoaster with a variety of electronic gizmos being pulled behind it. On this inventive ride, the listener’s emotions are unexpectedly tossed about as musical moods quickly change from silly to menacing and back again. Jesse Hall’s vocals sound as if they are emanating from a somewhat damaged antique radio as he plays an instrument that’s half guitar and half bass. Shoko Horikawa’s organ and Ryan Chittick’s drums expertly facilitate the music’s mood swings as their playing stops and starts with precision.
