Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack
Editor's Review:
How did the music producers from Spider-Man 2 compile their soundtrack? They must have found all the “alternative” artists featured on Now That’s What I Call Music Vols. 14, 15 and 16, put one of their songs on it, then added some Danny Elfman at the end in an effort to redeem themselves. It’s perfect synergy, some high school kid hears the song in the movie and then on the radio, assumes it’s good music and buys both the soundtrack CD and the movie DVD. It’s not that the soundtrack is bad; if you’re into Hoobastank, Yellowcard or Maroon 5 you’ll probably enjoy it, but it’s a complete copout — soundtracks are a great way to introduce the public to new artists, not force feed them stale radio darlings. Although, like always, the Danny Elfman songs are great.– Emilie Clark

Maroon5
Bio[+]Fronted by singer / guitarist Adam Levine, Burbank’s Maroon 5 creates diverse music seated in the alternative rock realm, yet heavily influenced by soul, R&B and hip-hop. The group, formerly known as Kara’s Flowers, first became publicly active when they played L.A.’s famed concert spot, The Whiskey in 1995. After releasing 1997’s The Fourth World on Reprise Records, the group fell back to regroup, altering their direction and adding guitarist James Valentine to their lineup. The result was a new band influenced by urban vibes, yet still issuing rock ‘n’ roll from their fingertips. Their Octone Records debut, Songs About Jane was released in 2002.
