At the Drive-In

Relationship of Command

Editor's Review:

The third full-length from this El Paso, TX powerhouse quintet, Relationship of Command is the album that will put this band on the map. At The Drive In's unique brand of rock 'n' roll music employs equal amounts of sheer force and intricate song construction in a fashion that the mainstream music establishment has never seen. Passages of soft, controlled melodic sound are interspersed throughout this record, though the punch is what ultimately hits hardest. Whether it's the straight-out force of songs like "Arcarsenal" and "Mannequin Republic" or the power-ballad-y "Invalid Litter Dept." and "Quarantined," ATDI expresses themselves with strength, sensitivity and conviction without insulting the intelligence of their fans. Easily one of the best releases of the new millennium.
