Social Distortion

Live in Orange County DVD

Editor's Review:

Social Distortion’s first live DVD release reveals itself to be good, but not wholeheartedly recommendable. Live in Orange County captures the band performing at the House of Blues in 2003, and it seems the older Mike Ness gets, the more his vocal delivery becomes like that of a punk rock Bob Dylan. The main fault of Live in Orange County is its periodic attempt at black-and-white artiness with faux film scratches a la the opening credits of the movie Seven. The black-and-white is alright, but the scratches are obviously fake, resulting in annoying white lines skipping over the picture. Still, there are some rousing performances of Social D classics like “Mommy’s Little Monster” and “Story of My Life,” plus a couple brand new songs off their latest album Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll.
