Black Eyed Peas

Bridging the Gap

Editor's Review:

Though there is no question as to the musical prowess of this Los Angeles-based trio (especially in the live setting), they represent the distasteful personification of the major label view of "underground" hip-hop. The problem with this kind of stuff is that it isn't at all original - it doesn't have to be super ground-breaking to be impressive, but this album is full of the sort of palliative hip-hop clichés that contribute to the dilution of the genre. From standard guest spots to played out hip-hop aesthetics, it's obvious that Black Eyed Peas follow the industry guide to making hip-hip records - flavorless and predictable.
