Bombshell Rocks
Street Art Gallery
Editor's Review:
It's good to finally hear something a little different come out of the recent punk rock genre, and Bombshell Rocks don't seem to be following any sort of formula with their album, Street Art Gallery, though they do take from more of style that sounds quite original among some of today's punk contemporaries. The music is raw and dynamic and isn't limited to just three power chords. The solos are short, bluesy bursts that compliment the songs rather than take away from them, and the piano solo on the song "The Will, The Message" is a perfect addition, if a little light hearted.
The vocals are gritty and in your face; you can almost picture the sneer on vocalist Marten Cedergran's face as he screams. Harmonies prominently intertwine with his vocals throughout the album which gives it a Mighty Mighty Bosstones kind of vibe. The lyrics have an intelligent, witty bite to them without sounding contrived or juvenile. The song "Bright Spot" stands out with lyrics like, "Sometimes I get so tired, and lose that positive stance / I give it up for a minute, turn hope for insignificance."
For those who saw them at 319 last week, they already know that Bombshell Rocks offers a different kind of sound among a large sea of punk bands. For those looking for a bit of a retro style of punk rock-think late Op Ivy or early Rancid (roughly the same thing)-this CD is worth checking out.
