Bouncing Souls

Tie One On

Editor's Review:

East Coast punk rockers The Bouncing Souls have returned to the ears of their listeners with Tie One On. A CD very short in length, this, the band’s second album released on Epitaph, is a live recording from New York City's The Continental.

Almost all songs featured on Tie One On have been previously recorded on older albums. About half of those were released on their self-titled Epitaph debut. Songs like "Kate is Great" and "Chunksong" (named for friend of the band, Timmy Chunks of the band Token Entry) are just as catchy and alive as the previous recordings, with new twists that only a live performance can bring. "Lamar Vannoy," "Argyle" and "Born to lose" are all from earlier days of this Jersey quartet. "Here we go," one of the less consequential songs performed on the album, brings the listener to think of a fast-paced, drunken chant.

The final song, "Kid," is a studio recording that will be released on the Bouncing Souls upcoming album. While not straying too far from the upbeat style of this band, the vocals pack more punch and the music backing them up displays a little more guts and power. A tantalizing preview to what may be coming up.
