Brothas Gonna Work It Out

Editor's Review:

Right now, this is the best bang for your buck on disc. Brothas Gonna Work It Out continues in the recent saga of swiping Public Enemy song titles for album titles and marks the Chemical Brothers' triumphant follow up to their Grammy-winning mega-smash, Exit Planet Dust. Instead of all new block rockin' beats, the Bros decided that a return to the old-school Turbo Nutter DJ daze on Brothas Gonna Work It Out, was in order.

Following Keoki and RZA's lead, the Chems return to their mixtape roots and cut up just about every DJ and cool group known to man. What you get is 60+ minutes of thumpin' remixes divided into 6 different tracks (Each track has 1-3 remixes, so you get a grand total of 20). Tom and Ed still continue to pay homage to the hometown favorites, The Beatles, but tone down the Ringo beats and big beat sirens on this release in favor of an earthier, hip-hop sound. Some of the standout remixes include Meat Beat Manifesto's classic "Mars Needs Women"; punkers Manic Street Preachers; and the Pink Floyd stoniness of Spacemen 3 spinoffs Spiritualized, whom the Chems even admit was their favorite remix on Brothas Gonna Work It Out.

I personally wished the Chems would've remixed the dance classic "Cocaine Sex" by Renegade Soundwave, but that's splitting hairs. I believe old Ringo said it best: "Take this brother, may it serve you well." The only question you're going to be asking after taking a listen to Brothas Gonna Work It Out is, "How long can u freak da' funk?"
