U2
The Best of 1980-1990
Editor's Review:
In a decade of big hair, big money and Regan, one band helped to show us idealism, integrity, individualism and inspiration. While new stuff from U2 seems far from the band’s original roots, this new release is an excellent reminder of what the band once was and where they came from. The new two-disk set from U2, The Best of 1980-1990 A-Sides and B-Sides is a great package that would make any U2 fan happy. While you might already have most of the A-Sides material on your other U2 disks, it's the B-Sides that make this package worth while.
The A-Sides has just about all of the songs that you'd expect from a greatest hits collection. Fourteen tracks ranging from the vintage "I Will Follow," "New Year's Day" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" to songs that brought U2 closer to what they are today, like "Angel Of Harlem," "All I Want Is You" and "Desire."
The B-Sides contains some of U2's greatest and probably most least heard material. Songs like "Spanish Eyes," "Sweetest Thing" and "Silver And Gold" are all B-sides from the Joshua Tree album, which in fact were stronger and better written songs than some of their A-Side counterparts.
U2 has had an unimaginable 18 years of music and activism, and The Best Of 1980-1990 has it all from vintage U2 to the U2 of the late ‘80s, this compilation delivers.
