Planet of Ice

Written By: Harland Spinks

Editor's Review:

From start to finish, you’re in for quite a ride with Planet of Ice and its mature, syncopated sound. You might just think it’s another Menos El Oso at first, but two or three tracks in you’ll really start to hear the rhythmic nuances that now accentuate the beginnings and ends of heavier chord progressions. The time-delayed plucking that rewinds and fast-forwards, in and out, has grown and taken on a different feel, too. The wailing guitar and instrumental breakdowns are reminiscent of the Mars Volta, but they’ve achieved a musical feat by sounding similar and not plagiarizing. It’s all new and original and mind-boggling and very heavy and still maintains those high-hat dance grooves. Planet of Ice is a cerebral and well-designed album.
