The Rough Guide to Salsa

Written By: Ky Junkins

Editor's Review:

The Latin music styles collectively called salsa are a jaunty bunch, creating an almost forceful romance with irrepressible rhythms of brass, drums and keys. You needn’t know how to salsa to enjoy this romping compilation, you don’t have to know how to dance at all — just follow the beat and you will be swaying quite enjoyably. The second salsa Rough Guide’s compiler planned the tracks to flow from a beginner’s tempo to an expert pace, so the disc offers something to dancers of all levels. Like the beats, most of the lyrics are simple even for a Spanish novice, from “La Maquina del Sabor” (the flavor machine) to “Recordando a Cuba” (remembering Cuba), and the memorable line, “If you don’t want salsa, outside!”
