Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Is Is

Written By: Connell Burton McDaniel

Editor's Review:

Why do some bands record better EPs than LPs? Many a music maven feel Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ self-titled debut EP outshines its full-length follow-up, and the same comparison could be made between the band’s new EP and its long playing predecessor, Show Your Bones. Is Is features five recently recorded songs that were written between Fever to Tell and Show Your Bones. Three of these were already available as part of YYY’s live DVD, but the studio versions presented here are definitely deserving of a listen. “Rockers to Swallow” explodes with jagged guitar peaks and crashing drums that become sucked into the vortex of Karen O’s chorus. After the restrained Bones, Is Is is a welcome return to form.
