Zeitkratzer (ft. Lou Reed)

Metal Machine Music

Written By: Dustin Bennett

Editor's Review:

When it was released in 1975, Metal Machine Music was rendered unlistenable by just about everybody except Lou Reed. Today we see and realize that it was pretty much the birth of industrial rock. By teaming up with German ensemble Zeitkratzer, Reed attempted to give his forsaken composition a new lease on life with a live performance (or rather, a recreation) of MMM by Zeitkratzer’s 11 classical instruments. How the transcription for something like this happens, I have no idea, but fans of the original MMM will be amazed by how accurately strings, horns and percussion brought to life the ever-changing, circular wall of sound that Reed’s feeding back, pre-tuned guitars created over 30 years ago.
