Rilo Kiley

Under the Blacklight

Written By: Noah G. Prado

Editor's Review:

Ugh. Those who are looking to get the same, “wow, this band is doing something really different!” sentiment that Rilo Kiley has suggested over the last six years are about to get queefed on. Jenny Lewis’ once almost motherly vocals take a turn for the modern and are again backed by the Watson twins (as featured on Lewis’ enormously acclaimed 2006 solo effort Rabbit Fur Coat). Delving into new and dark terrain with Under the Blacklight, “Dejalo,” sung in Spanish, is more of a Gloria Estefan B-side than an album-worthy Rilo Kiley track. Save yourself the trouble of listening to Under the Blacklight and buy an actual blacklight and go to any hotel bedspread to reveal all the horrifying stains. Same result.
