Emery

I'm Only a Man

Written By: Mitch Beddoe

Editor's Review:

Emery is one of Tooth & Nail’s most popular bands, and it’s become questionable as to why with the release of I’m Only a Man. Lead vocalist Toby Morrell’s operatic voice invites you to “party on,” but maybe he should have spent a little more time working on his lyrics and a little less time hittin’ the bottle. Emery is a good band, but their lyrics have always been shallow and superficial, barely scratching the surface of emotion. Morrell always seems to sing about food or eating, and there’s no irony associated with his beer belly. They may only be men, but as artists, Emery could stand to step it up a little more. Maybe it’s asking too much of them, but a new album should feature a new light.
