Jimmy Eat World

Chase This Light

Written By: Mitch Beddoe

Editor's Review:

Jimmy Eat World have reverted to their roots with Chase This Light. The album incorporates electronic drumming, synthesized keyboards, finger-snapping, acoustic guitar leads and lead vocalist Jim Adkins’ ever-so-soothing voice cascading over it all. The album is nostalgic of early Jimmy Eat World albums but “the taste doesn’t taste the same.” Like the loss of a loved one, “it hurts because it should,” as no band can remain what it once was and can never determine what it will one day become. The “past has passed,” but the Jimmy Eat World virus is still spreading as the album floats by with flowing beats, distorted guitars, violin accompaniment and superior use of feedback.
