Five Finger Death Punch
The Way of the Fist
Editor's Review:
Every decade has it — that one approach to music that the next generation, and every generation thereafter will look back on and say “what the FUCK?!” Marching on with the tried and true tough guy growl vocals and speed metal riffs that are somehow still supposed to impress people, FFDP are more like a carbon copy of a carbon copy of virtually every band trying to sound like the more aggressive brand of Korn.
At least get creative with it, guys. Lyrics like “I’m so sick and tired of the whole fucking world!” in track two, titled “The Way of the Fist” make these guys sound more like pre-teens than the tattooed and crazy-haired ruffians pictured in the CD’s inset. Delving even deeper into their amazingly intellectual psyche within (gasp!) the SAME song, things turn homophobic in the lyric, “No mercy, you faggot!” Brilliant. If that isn’t enough to sway even the most open-minded music listener, each and every track continues with the same formula of growl vocals verse, then half assed attempt at singing chorus, solo, double bass and more f-bombs than an Easy E record.
To end, I have a personal plea to the youth of America: Please stop buying into this pseudo aggressive bullshit. Tattoos, Ozzfest and saying “faggot” and meaning it doesn’t make you tough.
