The Rough Guide to Latin Funk

Written By: Ky Junkins

Editor's Review:

This compilation is a party waiting to happen. Combining elements of America’s best funk intermingled with unmistakably Latin roots, tracks like “Yo Soy Asi” by Los Amigos Invisibles had me saying “No they didn’t!” with a quintessential ‘80s drum track reminiscent of Morris Day and The Time covered by a slick-talking fella and punctuated by computer game sound effects. X Alfonso’s “Perro Que Ladra” is a rollicking joint, featuring juxtaposing male chants with female singing over funky guitar picking. Los Mocosos do it all, bringing traditional flavor with a crooner segueing into passionate singing and then even busting out a sick rap before a jazzy piano solo on “Vete/El Largo Adios.” If you dig classic funk, this one is a can’t miss.
