Electric Frankenstein
How To Make A Monster
Editor's Review:
A shout out to all who think rock is dead: You better check yourself, ‘cause Electric Frankenstein isn’t buying that shit, and they’re backin’ themselves up with true rock and roll—raunchy, power-chord and big, deep drum laden music that will make you think twice about pulling the sheet over the head of rock and roll.
Combining the never stale themes of pagan holidays, scantily-clad women of loose morals, partying and fast cars with the tenets of good rock song writing, EF comes across as bit glamorous at first, but after a listen or two, it becomes crystal clear that this five-piece leather-and-denim crew knows exactly what they’re doing. Spouting pro-rock sentiments like "Fight the Anti-Rock Conspiracy," EF blends the aesthetic and steady power chord gate of LA metal with the ethic and crazy choral aspects of punk rock, making a hybrid that comes off with all the attitude and surly stench of a Santa Cruz punk and all the self-promoting talent of a cheeseball LA gig musician.
Of course, rock music has always been all about rebellion and contradiction, so it seems only fitting that it’s most vigilant soldiers be EF, masters of glam-punk, representatives of all that is raunchy, powerful, pagan and scantily-clad. The blistering guitar solos, thundering rhythms and screaming-in-tune with a scratchy voice that hits all the high points at just the right time is what EF is all about, and I’m willing to bet the drummer kicks the bass drum and smacks that snare while twirling one drum stick high above his head. That’s rock-n-fuckin’-roll, baby.
