British Sea Power

Krankenhaus?

Written By: Dustin Bennett

Editor's Review:

Elements of variety and contrast are often vital parts of making a good album. The third release from across-the-pond rockers British Sea Power, Krankenhaus?, is proof that this ideology can go too far. The album opens with “Atom,” an explosive garage rocker built on many layers of sonic mayhem, but still maintaining a melodic, singable quality. The next two songs on the other hand, don’t seem to have anything in common with the first at all. Soft, breathy vocals floating along in familiar Brit-pop territory, leave the listener wondering what the hell happened to the band that was rockin’ a few minutes ago. A short, dynamic mood piece entitled “Hearing Aid” brings the good spice back a little, but by that point, you’re just plain confused.
