Eminem
The Marshal Mathers LP
Editor's Review:
Have you ever been beaten up by a record? Well, get ready. Eminem's newest
offering, The Marshal Mathers L.P., is going to kick your ass.
This guy is pissed! From the first track "Public Service Announcement"
to track eighteen, "Criminal," Eminem takes aim and squeezes
the trigger on anybody and everybody. He makes it sound good at the same
time. Victims of his lyrical bitch slaps include N'Sync, Insane Clown
Posse, Bill Clinton, his wife Kim, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera,
New Kids On the Block, MTV, his mother, almost all other rappers, parents,
his fans, his label, and just about everybody else on the planet. In fact,
the only song not attacking something is a dance beat love ballad to drugs.
All this is laid over catchy beats and melodies with perfectly timed samples
and plenty of references to the trench coat mafia.
Dr. Dre produced this album and makes guest appearances on several tracks.
Other cameos include Snoop Dogg, RBX, Nate Dogg, Sticky Fingers, Xzibit,
and D12. Odds are you'll be offended by at least one track on this record.
Take it with a grain of salt, though. Most of his attacks seem very tongue
in cheek. Eminem even states several times in song not to take him too
seriously. Still, this is a smart, scathing, catchy, angry record well
worth listening to over and over again.
