The Rough Guide to the Music of Paris

Written By: Ky Junkins

Editor's Review:

Imagine slowly sliding into a warm bubble bath. Through an open window, in swirl the sweet sounds of a quiet afternoon, caressing you like lullabies. These are the feelings evoked by this Rough Guide edition, focusing on the jazz and accordion music of Paris. A time-spanning compilation, recent hits by breakthrough vocalists segue into scratchy recordings of World War II-era jazz instrumentals. For those looking for scraps of music to propagate, this album is fertile ground. Every song is timeless in its way — romantic, pleasant and charming. Without a doubt, this is one of the best collections of the year. You don’t need to speak any French to be carried away by the mellow and mellifluous chords wafting out of this luxurious compact disc.
