They Might Be Giants
Here Come the 123s
Editor's Review:
It’s hard to decide if ordering the old Sesame Street or Conjunction Junction DVDs off the Internet would be more educational and fun than waking up on weekend mornings and enduring today’s mind numbingly boring children’s shows with your kids. Luckily, They Might Be Giants have been at it for over 20 years and have now twice over-dipped their proverbial musical balls into…you guessed it, children’s songs! A follow up to 2005’s Here Come the ABCs, kids can now round out their early developmental reading and writing skills in the tried-and-true medium of animation, song and puppetry. Aha, but wait: Children and parents alike are not only bound to the quirky and inventive visuals the DVD portion of this set includes, but also to a kick-ass soundtrack that whether you like it or not, offers a more hip and in-the-now level of learning. To jump into the future in that sense means more computer animation, but TMBG held true to their upbringing by incorporating puppets into the mix. Videos like “Number Two” use puppetry fun that will have kids singing along in no time. Just ask my four-year-old nephew Evan, who sat next to me laughing during the entire number. No pun intended.
