A Weather

Cove

Written By: Dustin Bennett

Editor's Review:

Individually, Aaron Gerber and Sarah Winchester’s ultra-breathy vocals probably wouldn’t have the gumption needed to captivate many listeners. However, together, with their shadowy harmonies and clever interplay, the two elusive voices work quite effectively on A Weather’s full-length debut, Cove. Though often times stark and methodical, the arrangements sometimes do bring a surprisingly fresh twist to the Pacific Northwest indie-folk scene. “Hanging Towers of Baltimore” and “Pinky Toe” are where the quintet’s qualities maximize, the former using unconventionally layered country-isms, and the latter thirsting on more sinister rhythms and uncanny lyricism. On the whole though, Cove does fail to enthrall.
