Tarja Turunen

My Winter Storm

Written By: Mike Kieran

Editor's Review:

This album is a pretentious and idiotic exhibition of Tarja Turunen’s oversized ego and undersized talent. Her vocals are the cloying centerpiece of My Winter Storm, particularly on tracks like “The Reign.” Tarja’s songwriting is boring and uninventive. The tracks plod along with melodramatic, agonizing slowness, such as on “I Walk Alone.” During parts of the album I was obligated to sing along mockingly, just to relieve the monotony. The liner notes are good for a laugh, consisting mainly of glamour shots and nonsensical Goth poetry. Turunen is credited with the “artistic vision and concept” of the album. The entire package is self-indulgent and cheesy to the point of ridiculousness. Let’s add being a megalomaniacal, self-absorbed hack to the list of Tarja’s accolades.
