Counting Crows

Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings

Written By: Briana Medford

Editor's Review:

Alternative rockers Counting Crows re-introduce themselves with the release of their first album in six years, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. Broken up into two parts, Saturday Nights contains louder, guitar heavy tracks, while Sunday Mornings is more acoustically driven. Frontman Adam Duritz’s angst-doused lyrics deal with life’s causes and effects. The opening track, “1492,” is loud, guitar driven and raw. Saturday Nights is more unhinged than expected, but it works, allowing Counting Crows to reinvent themselves while remaining true to their style. Sunday Mornings is folk infused, with a country flavor added, and “You Can’t Count on Me,” a mid-tempo track accentuated by piano, is their first single. Overall, the album is a solid comeback with enough panache to keep it interesting.
