Everclear

The Vegas Years

Written By: Briana Medford

Editor's Review:

The Vegas Years includes 14 cover songs recorded between 1994 and the present. The songs contain a surprisingly diverse variety of music that Everclear claims has influenced them throughout their career. They open with Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl,” which is representative of Everclear’s sound. A strangely unexpected song, “This Land Is Our Land,” morphed into a modern pop rock song, is next. Then, one of my favorite classics, “Brown Eyed Girl,” was unfortunately adapted into a boring, live acoustic version accompanied by audience vocals. Their last cover, “867-5309,” was definitely more upbeat and energetic. You should prefer the originals, but if you want an album with a variety of covers that has a simple pop rock twist, then this album may be for you.
