Good Riddance
Remain In Memory (The Final Show)
Editor's Review:
Coming full circle back to their hometown of Santa Cruz to play and record their final show, Good Riddance have killed two birds with one stone by additionally playing and recording their definitive performance as a group. Russ Rankin (vocals) and the rest of the longest lasting Good Riddance lineup to date lay it all out on the table, and from the sound of it, leave little time in between thrashings for the thrilled crowd to unwind. Spanning nearly 20 years and 11 full lengths of their poignant melodic/hardcore punk rock tunes (not to mention songs off various EPs and 7-inches), the set list boasts a whopping 31 tracks of fan favorites and even a couple of rarities lobbed in for good measure.“Fertile Fields” and “Mother Superior” serve as timeless classics in the long and winding catalogue of Good Riddance, which has endured the transformation from a more melodic and fast approach, interplayed with politically charged melodic hardcore, to full on hardcore punk rock near the end of their career. Rankin is passionate and spot-on vocally throughout, and more than substantiates his step as a new wave punk rock legend. Considering these guys are one of few “forefathers” to the Fat Wreck Chord institution, it’s almost depressing that they decided to hang it up. But for countless others, including myself, they most certainly will Remain In Memory.
