Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet

Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet

Written By: Dustin Bennett

Editor's Review:

Pristine in its nature and methodical in its execution, Abigail Washburn's second effort (and first with her new quartet) is a triumph of multi-cultural roots music. On this delicate but arousing collection, banjoist/vocalist Abigail Washburn is joined by fellow banjo-master Bela Fleck (also the album's producer), cellist Ben Sollee and fiddler Casey Driessen. Considering the fact that we're dealing with two banjos and multiple virtuosos, the music never feels too busy or cluttered, leaving ample room for Washburn's vocals, whether in English or Chinese. This is the type of album that could be well suited for a frolicking trip through wildflower meadows, or for craft time in a kindergarten classroom. It's just that damn fun.
