Editor's Review:
Atlanta, Georgia metal band Sevendust has created a whirlwind-like frenzy amongst both the media and fans alike with their first, self-titled CD. Now, by popular demand, Sevendust has returned with its' stellar sophomore effort simply titled Home; and it is sweet.
If you loved their first CD's perfect elixir of melody and hard core, wire-you-up grinds, then you will love edgy, energetic cuts like the title track, "Home," as well as numbers like "Waffle" and "Bender," a collaboration with Deftones frontman, Chino Moreno. And energy is the word when you describe the Sevendust vibe.
Even their more melodic, radio-friendly tunes carry an inspiring aura, like on "Rumble Fish," the future ZROC hit, "Denial," or "Licking Cream," a soulful duet with Skunk Anasie femme fatal, Skin. Sevendust's seamless marriage of metal and melody is their trademark and has yet to be achieved by any other band that I know of, explaining their meteoric rise to the forefront of today's hard core, metal scene.
"Denial" probably best exemplifies this seemingly improbable union of polar opposites (metal and melody). Lead singer Lajon croons with '70s-style soul flair and it's melodic structure and sound is worthy of Top 40 status, although it kills me to say that. And it is this musical duality that is bridging the gap between the ultra-hip underground metal scene and the ultra-watered down mainstream. Sevendust could make going mainstream cool. Remember, Home is where the heart is.

Bio[+]Sevendust {consisting of Lajon Witherspoon (lead vocals), Clint Lowery (guitars and vocals), Vince Hornsby (bass), John Connolly (guitar), and Morgan Rose (drums and vocals)} distinguish themselves within the nu-metal scene through their heightened appreciation for melody and harmony in addition to their brutally heavy, rhythmically-oriented sound. Assembling in Atlanta, GA in 1995, the group released their self-titled debut two years later and followed it up with Home in 1999. At that point, they had played over 800 shows and released two albums in less than four years — quite an impressive track record for such a young band. Their latest TVT records release, Animosity focuses on Witherspoon’s powerful voice and has earned them a near-rabid fan base.
