the Supersuckers

The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World

Editor's Review:

The Supersuckers eat, sleep and breathe rock ‘n’ roll (they drink, snort, smoke and shoot it, too), and they are known the world over for playing the world’s greatest bad shows in the cheapest dive bars to the surliest of crowds. That’s all called payin’ dues, kids, and the truly great rock ‘n’ roll bands never stop paying, especially when the devil’s their manager.

The Greatest Rock And Roll Band In The World is a greatest hits of sorts, comprised of classic cuts like "Born With A Tail" and "She’s My Bitch" as well as a healthy helping of new material, all rife with the gritty rock sound that has made The Supersuckers famous. All the songs are driven by the same rock ‘n’ roll attitude, be they punk rock or country (one of The Supersuckers’ best records, Must’ve Been High, is strictly country music), but The Supersuckers aren’t your run-of-the-mill neanderthal rock dudes. Oh, sure, they still adhere to the live fast, die young ethic ("Bad, Bad, Bad") and still enjoy all the things that come with the rock lifestyle ("Ron’s Got The Cocaine"), but the music — as evidenced by their masterful forays into the realm of country music ("Roadworn And Weary") — goes far beyond that of the cookie-cutter punkers of the day, and the lyricism of frontman Eddie Spaghetti is intelligent and sarcastic, executed with tongue planted firmly in cheek ("Supersucker Drive-By Blues").

The new tunes, which nearly equal the old in number, smack of The Supersuckers’ sound and personae. From the fiery "Saddletramp" to the anthemic "Hell City, Hell" to the back-in-the-saddle "Bloody Mary Morning," The Supersuckers just don’t disappoint.
