Run-DMC

Crown Royal

Editor's Review:

While I have much love for Run-DMC as pioneers, it's undeniable that the art form has evolved since then. Crown Royal, the group's latest comeback attempt, enlists the help of some of the biggest names in contemporary music, including Kid Rock, Sugar Ray, Fat Joe, Nas, Everlast and more. The first track, "It's Over" - on which Jermaine Dupri lends his skills - immediately struck me as a powerful and undeniably successful effort at combining Run-DMC's style with the more sophisticated production and sound of today. Ultimately, the album suffers from too few well-produced tracks and a disjointed feeling born from emphasizing each cut's cameo's sound - rather than Run-DMC's own. Nevertheless, Crown Royal shows these pioneers still have talent. Take a chance, if you're inclined to.
